When Feifei contacted me for a newborn photography session in Chicago, specifically to celebrate his son’s 100th day of life, I was soooo very excited. I had never photographed this traditional Korean celebration before and I was looking forward to heading into Chicago to capture this momentous day.
For those who aren’t familiar with this Korean celebration, the 100th day after a child’s birth is a significant milestone because it was unfortunately common for babies to pass due to sickness and poor living conditions many years ago. It’s also widely celebrated because it marks the passing of the most difficult period of the newborn’s life. (The latter I can sure get on board with celebrating and I’m certain many moms would agree with me!) If you are interested in learning more about his custom, click here.
So Feifei and his wife wanted to commemorate baby Leon’s 100th day of life with a photo session in downtown Chicago. After some planning and discussion, we decided to head into Lincoln Park’s South Pond so that we could get photographs in nature as well as some cityscape.
If you have never been, Lincoln Park’s South pond offers some of the most beautiful scenery in all of downtown Chicago. It’s in the middle of the Lincoln Park Zoo and offers beautiful views of the city on their Nature Boardwalk. It’s also the MOST perfect place to get family pictures if your children are young and can’t last for a long photography session; you can take a break and look at the animals and then get back to your photos.
Leon was such a good baby. We were able to sneak in some pictures of just Leon and his mom cuddling – these are some of my favorite photographs to capture!
Take a look at some of my favorites from their session. What do you think?!?! Contact me if you are interested in booking a family, maternity, or newborn session!
